When Goku is revealed to have survived Namek's destruction, but refuses to come home yet, Roshi ends up yelling in frustration that Goku's reason for not returning is that he's scared of the one being that is more powerful than a Super Saiyan: Chi-Chi, Goku's wife, only for him to immediately recant the remark after Chi-Chi, overhearing the remark, starts holding a sword out with the intent of stabbing him with it.

The appearance of Babidi changes the course of events, and after Vegeta is taken over by the wizard, he kills hundreds of people at the tournament in order to get Goku to fight him. Master Roshi goes with the others to look for the Dragon Balls in order to revive those killed by Vegeta. However, a much larger threat surfaces when Babidi's monster Majin Buu is released.
He later takes refuge from Majin Buu on The Lookout. A day later, Buu undergoes a transformation into Super Buu, who finds The Lookout and allows them to live for a short time as he awaits to fight the powerful warrior Goku promised him. He is later tricked into the Hyperbolic Time Chamber in order for Gotenks to fight him on his terms. After Piccolo believes Gotenks had lost, he destroys the door to the chamber, trapping them in for eternity.
However, Buu is enraged when he learns he will not be able to eat chocolate, and rips a hole in the dimensions using his powerful voice. Super Buu escapes and turns everybody into chocolate and eats them. He later witnesses with happiness the return of Goku and his friends on Earth after Kid Buu's defeat. A year later, after the Shadow Dragons are defeated, Master Roshi is on his island with Krillin when Goku arrives, remembering old times and saying their final goodbyes to Goku.
Roshi also appears in a few of the final flashbacks in this last episode. Main article: Dragon Ball: Mystical Adventure. Roshi tells Goku to be careful, warning him that Garlic Jr. It starts with the return of Dr. Wheelo, a mad scientist freed from ice through the use of the Dragon Balls.
Wheelo thinks Master Roshi is the strongest man in the world and wants to take possession of his body. His assistant, Dr. Kochin asks if he comes with him to Dr. When arrived on Dr. Wheelo's fortress, Master Roshi's battle skills are tested when he must face Misokatsun, Ebifurya and Kishime.
He manages to give the trio a good fight, he even fires the Kamehameha, but it does not work on the Bio-Warriors, and Kishime lands the final blow with his Electric whip attack. While Roshi slowly faints he says: "Didn't you teach them any manners? You've got to respect your elders! After this, he fires a Kamehameha with his students at Dr. Wheelo to no avail and is knocked out. In the end of the movie, Roshi says there was one thing he did like about Dr.
Wheelo, he thought he was the strongest man in the world, with Bulma replying that he is just a dirty old man, making the whole gang laugh. Master Roshi only had a very brief appearance in the beginning of the movie. Specifically, he proceeded to tell Goku off for trying to practice the Kamehameha and getting his magazines wet, with Goku protesting that he hasn't even finished training yet. He then notes that Goku's gotten stronger since he returned from Planet Namek in the dub equivalent of this scene, Roshi was instead impressed at Goku's Kamehameha, with Goku indicating he can split the waves even higher, with Roshi also indicating that beating Frieza changed Goku into becoming more open.
Master Roshi, alongside Krillin, Oolong, and a very reluctant Future Trunks, were about to see a swimsuit runway, only to grow tired of waiting and decided to peek into the dressing rooms, with all but Future Trunks following Roshi's lead. He then regrouped with Goku, Gohan, and Chi-Chi, with their admitting that they got the dates confused.
He later aided in evacuating the civilians from an ambush from Androids 14 and 15, and paid a visit to the hospital where Gohan, Goku, Future Trunks, and Krillin were present due to their injuries fighting both androids as well as Android Later Roshi tries to punch one of the Cyclopian Guards, but comically ends up injuring his hand.
Roshi and the others along with Krillin, Gohan, and the Namekians are taken to the Big Gete Star where they are greeted by the Guide Robo who explains their energy will be used as fuel to power the Big Gete Star, horrifying them.
When the Guide Robot picks Yajirobe after he punches the robot, Roshi joins Oolong, Krillin, and Gohan in futilely trying to pull Yajirobe away, but the Robot is too strong. Roshi and the others watch helplessly as Yajirobe is about to be chopped up when the Guide Robot overloads due Goku and Vegeta's Super Saiyan energy overloading the main core.
Roshi and the others then flee the self-destructing Big Gete Star, only to run into a group of Meta-Coolers, though fortunately Piccolo arrives in time to save them. As they make their escape they encounter Vegeta, Goku, and Meta-Cooler core. Master Roshi attends a picnic along with the other Z Fighters and their family members barring Goku and Chi-Chi, who were at a parent teacher interview session for a school Chi-Chi planned to send Gohan to.
He ended up becoming severely drunk, and thus was doing various fool tricks such as balancing a stick with dishes on them with his teeth in the dub, this was altered to state that he was going berserk because someone hid all of his girlie magazines. He was also the only one besides Mrs. Brief who actually enjoyed Krillin's painful karaoke session.
After the flight over to New Planet Vegeta, he started experiencing a hangover which was also amplified later on by Oolong smashing his head with a mallet in order to give him "medicine", although the Dub implied that his hangover was due to overstuffing on Tuna Sandwiches.
He also ate a feast prepared by Paragus for Goku, along with Goku and Oolong. He eventually attempts to demand that Paragus either let him and his friends leave New Planet Vegeta, or at the very least install a video and magazine store to liven up the place while Paragus was busy trying to regain control over Broly, despite Oolong's warning that Paragus is most likely not going to let him.
Eventually, Roshi ends up dreaming about meeting a pretty girl and is rubbing his head on Oolong's feet, eventually biting on it, and slept through Broly's attack on Goku.
Master Roshi later attempts to help Goku and the other Saiyans fight Broly by transforming into his maximum power form and attempts to use the MAX Power Kamehameha made more explicit in the Japanese dub where he says "Kamehame While facing Broly, Roshi calls him "Broccoli", revealing Broly's name is a pun on the word "broccoli". After Paragus' spaceship was destroyed, he realizes he left his lunch on Paragus' spaceship.
He eventually makes it off the planet when Piccolo arrives and lends them the Capsule Corporation spaceship he used to get to New Planet Vegeta. Main article: List of Power Levels. Master Roshi is among one of the strongest humans in history, and the strongest fighter of his generation.
A legendary champion of the World Martial Arts Tournament, simply knowing that students of his were competing in the said tournament left all spectators in awe. Despite his advanced age reducing his natural stamina and endurance while also reducing his peak performance, he makes up for it with super efficiency both physically and mentally, able to easily read his opponent's movements and battle tactics, allowing him to move with minimal needed effort.
His experience and intuition have honed his natural instincts to become fully aware of his surroundings to the point practically being able to move against threats automatically. A grandmaster of all martial arts and hand-to-hand combat styles, along with their respective techniques and skills, Roshi is an outstandingly versatile fighter and tactician, able to quickly see through an opponent's skills and effortlessly change his own methods to best suit the situation.
At the same time, he is deceptively strong for his frail-form, able to move at blazing speeds and move massive structures with his bare hands, all while at base power. Once he outputs his absolute maximum might, he was capable of destroying the moon.
Roshi notes that his perverted ways had held him back all these years, and that putting the energy he once used for them towards combat had greatly increased his power and skill. He also stated that Goku and Krillin's battles had taught him to go beyond his limit.
However, over the course of the Dragon Ball series, his power became outclassed by the newer generation of fighters. His power also pales in comparison to King Piccolo and his offspring and he ends up dying after failing to seal King Piccolo with the Evil Containment Wave.
At the beginning of Dragon Ball Z , he is quickly overshadowed by the Z Fighters, Saiyans, and villains that follow and is relegated to the role of a wise, yet perverted old martial arts master. He would instead regularly advise his allies with sagely wisdom or occasionally aid them in their training as he aided Krillin in his three-year preparation for the androids and later taught Goku the Evil Containment Wave.
Despite his apparent retirement from active fighting and acknowledging his days as the strongest are long over, he still continues to train alone. In Dragon Ball Super , Master Roshi uses his full power form to combat of Frieza's soldiers with only minor difficulty. Master Roshi is, however, not able to keep up with Frieza's special elite warriors like Shisami and Tagoma.
Later in in the Universe Survival Saga , Master Roshi is chosen to fight in the Tournament of Power by Gohan, believing that his vast experience and gigantic bag of tricky attacks will be very useful during the tournament, which Goku agreed to.
He was also able to briefly hold his own against Goku's base form but is easily defeated by Goku's Kamehameha after he put up no defense because he received no commands from Yurin. Goku states that Roshi had been hiding his true power from everyone and is surprised that this is what Master Roshi can do when he isn't holding back. During the fight with Team Universe 4, he showed his resourcefulness by facing off against three opponents consecutively.
Against Caway, he easily repelled her energy weapons and ultimately terrified her into forfeiting albeit it was mostly from his perverted advances. When we first meet Master Roshi, he says she enjoys getting pizza delivered to his home.
This is meant to be rather tongue-in-cheek since Roshi's house is located on a tiny island in the middle of the ocean.. However, while this may be a joke to the readers, we are not told if this is an actual lie or not. If it's true, that means that Master Roshi forces some poor delivery kid to fly all the way out to his isolated home just so he can enjoy some pizza.
We can't blame him for loving pizza, but maybe he should learn to make it at home. Try frozen pizza, Roshi, it's not bad!
Before Master Roshi came along, the martial arts elements of Dragon Ball were not quite as prevalent. After he first used the Kamehameha, things would never be the same in Akira Toriyama's crazy world.
Roshi not only introduced the concept of ki attacks and power levels, he's also indirectly responsible for shifting the focus of the series to battles, specifically supernatural martial arts. Without him, Dragon Ball 's popularity might not have skyrocketed. See, Roshi's first big story arc was when he was training Goku and Krillin, which was the first time the series focused heavily on martial arts. It also led to the first world martial arts tournament arc in the franchise, and when this arc was well-received by the manga readers, Toriyama's editor said he should lean more heavily into battles and martial arts.
It's kind of dark to think that this one character changed the entire franchise, and that without him, Dragon Ball 's popularity might not have skyrocketed. Before Goku knew of his origins as a Saiyan, all he knew of his early life was that his grandpa found him in the woods.
Grandpa Gohan once trained under Master Roshi and at some point he told Roshi of the boy he found in the woods, and how he was raising him as his own.
So Roshi new about how Grandpa Gohan found Goku, what's so dark about that? Well, in certain versions of this flashback, Grandpa Gohan stumbled across Goku in the crater that his spaceship made when it landed on Earth. And Yet, he saw fit to keep such a secret to himself, only revealing it when it was too late during the Saiyan saga.
No one can ever claim that Master Roshi wasn't a thorough teacher, since he went to great lengths to make sure his students truly walked the path of the martial artist. See, if Goku and Krillin won the very first martial arts tournament they competed in, Master Roshi figured they'd lose interest in fighting, since they did so well on their first go. Thus, he came up with a plan. Roshi disguised himself as "Jackie Chun" an obvious tribute to Jackie Chain by Toriyama and entered the tournament himself.
He prevented Krillin from getting to the finals and he defeated Goku in the final round. Though this plan is rather caring when you think about it, it's also kind of screwed up that he sought to teach his students the lesson of perseverance by beating them up. We left one important thing out of the match between Goku and him: the fact that he turned into a great ape in the middle of it.
After regrowing his tail during a previous match, the full moon once again transformed Goku into the ape monster. In order to stop Goku's rampage, and to continue the match, Master Roshi, as Jackie Chun, had to resort some drastic measures. Like Piccolo would later do for Gohan, Roshi destroyed the moon so that the Great Ape transformation would be reversed. The implications of the moon being destroyed are pretty horrific, since it would cause utter chaos in the form of irregular and destructive weather patterns and tidal shifts.
Luckily, Kami would later restore the moon after Goku's tail was removed permanently. Before Roshi gained immorality, before he created the Kamehameha, before he became known as the Turtle Hermit, he was once a young student. However, things took a dark turn for him, his fellow student Shen and their master, Mutaito during King Piccolo's first reign on Earth. Roshi and Shen were initially rivals but soon became friends and helped their master combat King Piccolo.
Unfortunately, they were no match for the demon king, thus their master used the evil containment wave to seal up King Piccolo in a rice cooker, but it was at the expense of his own life. Shen and Roshi threw the rice cooker into the ocean so Piccolo could never return. Not only did Roshi watch his master die, but he and Shen began to hate each other as time went on. Despite being mostly biological, the two haven't aged at all over the years. Their appearances now are most likely their appearances after Dr.
Gero captured them; they definitely look to be in their early to mids, just a few years shy of the Z-Fighters when they first encountered Androids 17 and 18 back in Dragon Ball Z. Being that the two no longer age biologically, over the decade that has gone by that they've known the Z-Fighters, they'd have to be somewhere in their mids by the end of the Tournament of Power. And of course, Android 18 is older than Android 17, which could've fooled many fans given how much stronger Android 17 has always been compared to his sister.
Upon making a return in Dragon Ball Super , Trunks managed to somehow look younger than he did back when he made his debut in Dragon Ball Z! Regardless, he truly makes 30 look like the new 20! This older version of Future Trunks is definitely a lot more mature and levelheaded than the passionate teenaged version of Future Trunks that fans were used to, but of course, anyone living in a world as dark as Future Trunks' most likely grows up pretty fast.
While Piccolo looks and acts much older than he is, it's a well-known fact that Namekians mature faster than Earthlings. He may be one of the most "youthful" Z-Fighters around, but mentally he's well beyond his years and after inheriting Kami's knowledge after their fusion, probably beyond Roshi in terms of his aged wisdom. It's easy to forget that Gohan is so young after seeing him with a wife, daughter, and a successful career.
At 23, he's lived a fuller life than most of the other Z-Fighters put together, not to mention that he's surpassed many of them in terms of power, even after going years without serious training. But while he's definitely wise beyond his years, the naive mindset that he's displayed during battles against powerful foes like Cell and Super Buu shows that he still has a lot more living to do.
Trunks is by far one of the youngest and strongest Z-Fighters to date, mastering a standard Super Saiyan transformation by the age of 8.
Despite being well into his teenage years by Dragon Ball Super 's finale, he hasn't experienced a growth spurt of any kind just yet. When Future Trunks first traveled to the past, he was actually 14 years of age, an indication that there are either some serious continuity errors within Dragon Ball Super , or his physical transformation could happen any day now.
Like Trunks, Goten seems to be a later bloomer as well. At the youthful age of 13, Goten remains the youngest Z-Fighter to ever exist, and continues to hold the title as the world's youngest Super Saiyan!
