Who owns portland brewing
The original founders years ago sold the operation, which has gone through numerous ownership changes over the past two decades. The Portland Breweries Series so far has chronicled 40 brewpubs based in the Rose City, telling the story of how they got started and what they're all about.
That competitiveness has put a hurt on fellow Portland originals like Bridgeport Brewery, which closed last year, and Widmer Brothers, bought last month by Anheuser-Busch InBev. Our 'beer guy' Andre Meunier has spent going to just about every brewery in Portland, all in a quest to find the city's best breweries.
Tom Bleigh was a great collaborator and inquisitive and curious mind. He gave me a lot of support and with that we were able to bring really fun beers to life. We also got to make tweaks to the portfolio and make great beers like the Macs Amber even better, do fresh hop versions and all sorts of things.
When I think back on that time, it was a growth phase for me. I got so much more perspective and maturity. It felt like a beautiful palace in the front room, even if the rest of the plant was much less so. The branding and ownership and marketing was always a head scratcher, but thankfully we were mostly shielded from that thanks Tom.
I look back with pride on the work we did and gratitude for the opportunity. I experienced amazing relationships with folks that I still maintain to this day. Next month, Portland Brewing will lay off its 27 employees and stop brewing beer. Last week, Portland Monthly recently gave a glowing review to an oxtail lasagna from Lasagna Project PDX , an Instagram-based lasagna business from a chef some Portlanders may recognize.
