Which primal diamond for mage

Combine this with Glyph of Flash of Light, and you have yourself a mighty combination. This procs a lot, and sometimes back to back offering up to 8 seconds of mana free heals! So a few notes if you take this gem: 1 Monitor Lucidity and know how long your cast times are, plan your casts accordingly.

If you start a cast in the middle of the proc, and the proc falls off before the cast finishes, you will be charged for the heal. So be ready for that. Since you have very little time to act, your options are limited. But because of this, we can plan everything precisely. Mana reducing buffs need to be active at the time the mana is spent, which is the end for spells with cast time.

You should know, that using cast time spell first, and then an instant is not the same as instant cast first, and then casting, because after instants you have to wait the GCD until you can start the next spell, therefore delaying the finish of the next cast and mana spending. So what can you do during this 4 seconds Lucidity offers?

You have time to cast 1 long heal, 1 short heal, and 1 instant spell. With 3 spells casts you saved around 55k mana. Using FoL might seem unusual at first, but I strongly advise to use it for maximum benefits. It can be useful to track the proc with an addon, so you won't miss and moment of the duration. As an arcane mage the critical hit increase isn't very useful and the intellect buff would be much nicer. Being an arcane mage keeping your mana up is a priority, but this gem would only be useful if it was able to proc on things that mages did to themselves. Does this Gem proc often with the rune of power heal, Ice barrier or things like arcane power and iceflows.

Something this powerful will have a hidden line in the coding that prevents it from happening too often. I would not be surprised if this is limited to once every 60 secs. And that may prevent it from being nearly as powerful as first advertised. Blizz needs to get on this in a blue post and say what the frequency of these procs on all these gems are supposed to be. Elemental Shaman it could provide considerably less benefit. If this gem is indeed meant to replace, instead of augment, our current dps caster meta gem Burning Primal Diamond , this seems like a lackluster tradeoff at best. For most caster dps classes intellect is highest in the stat priority and crit is dead last ie losing intellect to gain crit is probably a loss for everyone, except maybe boomkins.

In summary, seems like more of the same disappointing "legendary" vendor garbage we've come to expect from this expansion. Remains to be seen how this is going to pan out in real encounters. Can you confirm that the effects actually take place in arenas? I'm just wondering if the proc might show but not actually take effect, similar to PVE trinket tooltips listing the full amount when it's actually halved.

Not trying to be skeptical but the meta isn't supposed to work on any item lower than I believe, and with the scale down it might still proc but have no effect possibly. Just havent seen this in any arenas ive played this season and if it does work then it just strikes me as odd. If it does than damn good catch. I've gone in to a wargame with a friend that has 2 versions of them and i can at least confirm that Courageous and Sinister Primal Diamonds do proc and have an effect inside arenas.

Effects don't seem to transfer with spellsteals though. The proc rate is supposedly lower but the tests we did we're with a monk healer and a frost mage and from reading up on the gems; the proc rate is quite high for a frost mage and at times we did see back to back procs as well. Will the Gem be useful in 5. I guess the PvP-Head ilvl will increase above , so we will not have a negative effect by ditching the PvP-Headpiece.
